Company Profile

Company Overview

Airvolution Energy was founded in 2010 and since 2013 has built eleven ROC/FiT projects in England, Scotland and Wales.

Airvolution was awarded the 2013 Green Energy Wales Award for “Outstanding Green Energy Project”. Airvolution was owned by ESB Novusmodus - a €200 million clean-tech and renewable fund, which to date has been solely funded by Electricity Supply Board (ESB), Ireland’s premier electricity utility, and advised by Greencoat Capital. ESB are not involved in Airvolution from 13th October 2017 onwards and the company is now wholly owned by the existing management.

Following this management buy-out, the new Airvolution Energy signed a long term joint development agreement with Statkraft of Norway.

Statkraft UK is a 100% owned subsidiary of Statkraft AS (Statkraft), which is wholly owned by the Norwegian state.
Statkraft is a leading company in hydropower internationally and Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy. The Group produces hydropower, wind power, solar power, gas-fired power and supplies district heating. Statkraft is a global company in energy market operations. Statkraft has 3800 employees in 16 countries and has operated in the UK since 2006.

In the UK Statkraft develop, own and operate renewable production facilities and are also involved in the trading and origination of power from its own projects and those of third parties. Since 2006, Statkraft has invested £1.4 billion in the UK's renewable energy infrastructure and facilitated over 6 GW of new-build renewable energy generation through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). With a portfolio now exceeding 12 TWh per year from over 400 customers, Statkraft is the leading provider of short and long term PPAs in the UK.

As a state owned utility, Statkraft is a solid, dependable partner, committed to playing a leading role in the UK energy market.
Statkraft has been active in the UK since 2006. Statkraft UK has, through several JVs, developed a portfolio of onshore wind projects, including Alltwalis Wind Farm in Wales (23MW, operational since 2009), Baillie Wind Farm in Caithness, Scotland (52.5MW, operational since August 2013), Berry Burn Wind Farm, in Moray, Scotland (67MW, operational since May 2014) and Andershaw Wind Farm, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland (36.6MW, started generating December 2016). In addition, Statkraft owns Rheidol Hydropower Plant in Wales (49MW, operational since 1962).

In UK offshore wind, Statkraft has played a hugely successful role in the industry since making its entrance in 2009. The current portfolio includes a 40 per cent shareholding in Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, a 317MW wind farm off the coast of Norfolk that has been in operation for more than five years. The 402 MW Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm, where Statkraft has a 30 per cent shareholding, is scheduled to be completed and fully commissioned by late 2017.

Statkraft has decided not to invest further in offshore wind projects and to prepare for divestment of the existing offshore wind portfolio in the UK. Recently Statkraft sold its 50 per shareholding in the Triton Knoll project to partner Innogy, and in 2016 sold its 25 per share in the Dogger Bank projects to Statoil.
